Amy Stetson and Yarrow Functional Wellness
Meet Amy Stetson, Functional Wellness Practitioner
Amy Stetson is the founder of Yarrow Functional Wellness, a functional medicine and functional nutrition practice dedicated to helping people uncover the root cause of chronic symptoms like digestive discomfort, food sensitivities, low energy, and unexplained inflammation, even when their labs come back "normal." Based in Bozeman, Montana, Amy works remotely with clients across the country, combining functional lab testing with sustainable, holistic health habits to help people move from simply managing symptoms to truly optimizing their health.
From Conventional Medicine to Functional Wellness
Amy spent eleven years in conventional medicine, first as a Registered Nurse for seven years, and then as a Nurse Practitioner in Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine for four years. What she loved most during that time was working with motivated patients who were focused on prevention, people who wanted to optimize their health rather than just treat disease, and who wanted to get ahead of their health instead of only managing it. That proactive, prevention focused mindset is what originally drew her into medicine, and she holds deep respect for what conventional medicine does well.
But over those years, Amy kept running into the same gap. Patients would do everything right, changing their diet, reducing stress, and exercising regularly, and still come back feeling like their health wasn't supporting their goals. Their labs looked fine, yet something was clearly off. Conventional medical tools are excellent at ruling out disease, but Amy needed something that could identify dysfunction before it progresses into disease, the kind of dysfunction that shows up as a constellation of symptoms that seem unrelated until you look closer and find they are deeply connected.
That gap led her to train in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, a discipline focused on identifying the underlying, root causes of chronic symptoms using functional lab testing rather than simply treating symptoms as they appear.
A Personal Health Journey, Not Just a Professional One
Before Amy ever used functional lab testing and root cause healing protocols with clients, she put herself through the same process. When she began this work, she was already eating a plant based diet, exercising regularly, and meditating consistently, and yet she was still dealing with nightly gastrointestinal discomfort and unpredictable reactions to certain foods. Her own functional labs revealed leaky gut, elevated histamine, and gluten antibodies, imbalances that would never have shown up on standard conventional lab work.
From there, Amy shifted toward a Mediterranean style diet that includes high quality animal products alongside plenty of plants, prioritized rest to complement her activity levels, and worked through her own adrenal and gut healing protocols. Slowly, things shifted. She was no longer hungry between meals, her energy levels increased, and her digestion became something she could rely on instead of a constant balancing act.
Amy is open about the fact that her own health journey is ongoing. It isn't about achieving perfection, it's about having the right information to move consistently in the right direction, and that same philosophy is at the heart of how she works with every client.
Why Yarrow Functional Wellness Exists
Yarrow Functional Wellness was born out of eleven years of listening closely to patients, and two questions kept coming up again and again: "What health information actually applies to me?" and "If my labs are normal, why don't I feel better?"
Amy realized she wanted to offer this kind of root cause, personalized functional wellness support within conventional medicine, but ultimately recognized it didn't quite fit within that model, and neither did she. So she made the decision to build something new, a functional wellness business she could run from anywhere with an internet connection, meeting clients wherever they are, no matter where she happens to be.
A few things to know about how Amy approaches this work:
She is not swayed by trends. Amy's approach is rooted in functional lab data and root cause resolution, not whatever wellness trend happens to be popular at the moment.
She practices what she teaches, imperfectly and honestly. Amy's own gut healing and adrenal recovery journey continues to shape how she supports clients through their own health challenges.
She is always learning. Functional medicine and functional nutrition are constantly evolving fields, and Amy is committed to continuing to grow her knowledge to better serve her clients.
She works with clients wherever they are. Based in Bozeman, Montana, Amy supports clients remotely all over the country, making root cause, functional wellness support accessible no matter your location.
